Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig emphasised in her speech at the opening of the APEX hydrogen power plant on 24 March 2021 that we can all be very proud of this”.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has a long and successful tradition of production of clean energy. “We have a clear focus on clean industries that are driven by renewable energy and hydrogen technology”, said the Prime Minister. In terms of figures Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is capable of covering the electricity demand with renewable energy. “However, unfortunately there is a lack of possibilities to store wind and solar energy. This hydrogen power plant is a step forward”.
The locational advantages of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are evident: wide availability of renewable energy and well-developed logistics “. Furthermore the proximity to the major urban centres Hamburg, Berlin, Szczecin and Copenhagen is of great benefit. In addition enough area is available for expansion and development within the federal state. We use these advantages consequently and thus we are pioneers in implementation of the national hydrogen strategy.” As an example of this the Prime Minister mentioned the establishment of the hydrogen energy cluster of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in October 2020.
